NMIT is a Tiriti-led organisation with a statutory mandate to reflect Māori-Crown partnerships in order to ensure that, among other things, its governance, management, and operations give effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Te Tiriti). 

Appropriate consultation with Māori for rangahau: research by Māori, about Māori, and/or for Māori (i.e. language, knowledge or persons). 

This ensures a thorough process that reflects NMIT’s Te Tiriti o Waitangi Policy(external link), upholds the needs and aspirations of Tangata Whenua of Te Tauihu and can contribute to meaningful engagement and outcomes for Māori and researchers.
