Lisa Salter Learner Success Advisor – International
Born in Christchurch, Lisa Salter is a proud New Zealander who has spent much of her life living and travelling overseas.
Those experiences shaped her understanding of how different cultures see the world and how important it is to feel a sense of belonging wherever you are.
““Living away from home taught me what it’s like to start over, to feel out of place, and to find your footing again,” she says. “That’s something I carry with me in the work I do now.””
Throughout her career, Lisa has gravitated towards roles centred on people - helping them feel welcome, comfortable and confident in new environments. Whether answering questions, connecting learners with the right support services, or simply offering reassurance, she enjoys being someone others can rely on.
As a Learner Success Advisor working with international students, Lisa meets people from all over the world and supports them as they settle into life and study in New Zealand. Having lived overseas herself, she understands both the excitement and the challenges of being far from home.
“It helps me see things from their point of view and give support that actually feels useful,” she says.
Lisa is also closely involved in orientation programmes, ensuring students feel connected from day one. For her, orientation is about more than sharing information, it’s about creating a sense of community.
“I want every student to leave those sessions feeling like they’ve got someone in their corner and a few friendly faces they can reach out to.”
She values kindness, understanding and a touch of humour in her work, and measures success not just by academic results, but by how supported and confident students feel.
“For me, success isn’t only about grades — it’s about people feeling supported, connected, and proud of what they’ve achieved.”
